First of all I will listen and transcribe the song' structure, then I choose the best Drums sound and Cymbals for it. I will play it for a while just to enter in the mood of the song and then I proceed to the recording . Usually, after recording five good and perfect takes, I'll put song percussions like Tamburine or Shaker if that can improve the song. The next day I'll listen the recording and in case it's needed I'll do additional takes.
